Samsung announced U.S. pricing and availability for the Galaxy Z TriFold — the first dual-hinge smartphone available in this market that has the thickness of a robust bar phone but opens up into a full-sized, 3.9mm thick 10″ tablet. Other key specs include a Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, 200 MP main rear camera, titanium hinge, reinforced display, and a design tested for 200,000 folds. The interface allows tablet-sized apps, a native DeX windowing environment, or just running up to three phones apps side by side. (But is there AI? Of course there is!)
This is early adopter tech, not a mainstream phone, and it is priced accordingly: $2900 with 512GB of storage. It goes on sale at Samsung.com and Samsung Experience stores on January 30. It will not be sold at carrier stores or other retail outlets. I’m expecting shipment volumes to be extremely low, and, despite the price, I expect that the limited number of units that are available will sell out quickly.
I have gotten hands on with the Galaxy Z TriFold at a Samsung analyst event at CES, and I struggled to give the unit back. I’m not expecting Samsung to distribute too many review units, which means I’m keeping a close eye on my credit card so that it doesn’t accidentally order one by accident.
If you’re wondering why Samsung built such an expensive, limited product, here a link to my analysis on Techsponential when it was first announced.
