Seagate Has An Astro Bot 5TB Game Drive Because Gaming is Supposed to be Fun.

If you have a modern PlayStation and you’re adding games this holiday season, you may be running out of storage. Sure, you could buy an NVMe SSD drive for the fastest solution, but large capacities are expensive, and thanks to the ongoing AI datacenter memory shortage, getting more expensive every day. Hard drives are a great way of adding significant capacity at more reasonable prices, but they suffer from being boring. Seagate has solved this problem with a Limited Edition Astro Bot Game Drive. It typically costs around $20 more than the plain white version, but adds more than $20 worth of cuteness.

Quick stats:

It’s a 5TB USB 3.0 hard drive for PC, PS4, and PS5 for storing up to 60 games. It’s a fast hard drive but still a hard drive, so on the PS5 it is for game storage only (i.e., you can’t play the game directly from the drive, for that you do need a specific class of SSDs). There is Astro Bot decoration on all sides, not just a logo or sticker — though there is an Astro Bot sticker sheet in the box! The drive has blue LEDs, matching the Astro Bot’s coloring (though to be fair, the plain white version also has blue LEDs. The dot matrix “eyes” on the front are just static decoration, not animated. Missed opportunity? Yes. Would that have added a lot of cost? Also yes). There’s a code included for a 14 day PlayStation Plus Premium/Deluxe Trial, so you can get back some of the premium that Seagate paid for the license. Seagate backs the drive with a three-year warranty. It’s practical, and it’s cute.
