Review: Microsoft “Artifact” Holiday Sweater 2025

When I started this site I promise I wasn’t planning on writing about sweaters, but Microsoft has a modern tradition of selling limited edition ugly tech sweaters and sending them to a few media and analysts. At this point, I have a small collection of the things, so a quick review of the latest model: This year’s #MicrosoftUglySweater, “Artifact,” is not actually all that ugly if you are the type to wear gadget-oriented shirts or socks (in other words, me). It is made of 100% soft-knit acrylic (i.e., plastic that feels like soft cotton) and comes in sizes XS – …

HyperX Cloud Mini wireless solves a key problem for kids’ headphones: kids have to want to wear it

When considering buying headphones for children, most people recognize the need to choose a unit that protects their hearing — typically with an 85 db cutoff that prevents the hearing damage that can occur with exposure to music or noise above this level over long periods of time. However, that is only the start. Children’s headphones also need to be sized appropriately, durable enough to survive at least some abuse, simple to keep charged if they are wireless, can work with 3.5mm headphone jacks (especially for use at school), and are something the child wants to wear. That last one …

Samsung Announces Galaxy Z TriFold

Samsung just announced the foldiest of its foldable phones yet: a 6.5″ phone that folds out in two directions into a 10″ tablet. The 2160 x 1584 inner screen can be configured with three 6.5” phone-sized app windows or any number of other configurations, including a fully windowed on-device DeX environment. When open, it is just 3.9 mm thick; closed it is 12.9mm, roughly equivalent to a Galaxy S25 Ultra in a case. It weighs 309g, about a third heavier than a Galaxy S25 Ultra with that case. Like the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the Galaxy Z TriFold is powered by …

Samsung’s New Display Tech: Micro RGB TV. Maximum Color, Near Maximum Price

Samsung recently launched a new type of TV: micro RGB. Due to the sheer size (115”) and cost ($30,000) of the new micro RGB TV sets, Samsung isn’t sending out review units, so I headed over to the company’s new U.S. headquarters in Northern New Jersey to get eyes on. Samsung didn’t allow me to calibrate the set or even watch content I’m already familiar with, so this is not a review, but I was able to get a good idea of what this technology is capable of and where it fits in the market. Micro RGB is yet another backlighting …

73 & Sunny: Simple Solution to Lost Remotes — Make Them Thicker

Sometimes the simple solutions are best. I’m constantly losing my remotes — especially for the Apple TV+ — in between my theater chairs. 73 & Sunny sent over these thick GripStand remote covers. These are cheap ($10 – $20), they can stand up on their own, and the green one glows in the dark. Problem solved. Disclosures: 73 & Sunny sent these cases for review, but Devices View does not accept paid posts or participate in affiliate link programs, and 73 & Sunny had no editorial input.

Samsung Launches “Micro RGB TV”

New display tech — and object of lust — alert: Samsung is launching yet another backlighting technology that it is calling micro RGB TV. This “uses red, green, and blue Micro-LEDs to unlock hyper-real color and contrast.” Samsung is claiming an industry-first 100% color coverage of BT.2020 and Pantone Validated colors. The technology supports 144Hz refresh rates for gaming and “Micro RGB HDR+” (but no Dolby Vision or specific brightness claims). Samsung is also using its best glare-free coating (that should significantly increase viewing comfort and apparent contrast), 4K AI upscaling, Dolby Atmos speakers, and Bixby AI for its visual …

TCL A1: TCL Cautiously Enters the Portable Projector Market

TCL is an enormous, vertically integrated TV manufacturer: TCL runs its own factories and invests tens of billions of dollars in building its own display panel fabs in China. (TCL also has enormous mobile and home appliance divisions.) Like most big brands, TCL initially ignored the surge of portable projectors out of China because they didn’t initially target TV buyers, but it is now dipping its toes into the market as the product category grows and we start seeing some cannibalization of traditional entertainment displays. TCL is late to this trend; Samsung went first with the Freestyle launched at the …

Yaber T2 Keith Haring Edition

Portable cannister projectors are not only becoming a big business, they allow small companies like XGIMI or (what was a small company) Anker/Nebula to move up the value chain. These companies, mostly coming out of China have names that you may not have heard of that nevertheless have sold hundreds of thousands or even millions of devices. Yaber was formed in 2018, shipped its first projector in 2019, and claims it hit over two million units sold by 2022. As it moves upmarket, Yaber sought out stylistic collaborators to stand out, and it launched a Keith Haring version of one …

Bose is Buying McIntosh

Bose announced that it is buying historic amplifier and speaker brand McIntosh Group from its private equity owners for undisclosed terms. McIntosh Group also includes high-end speaker brand Sonus Faber. This acquisition is about three things: 1. McIntosh gives Bose entry into luxury brands/opportunities, especially for its already successful automotive audio business 2. High-end audio is a difficult standalone business; there has been relentless consolidation throughout the industry, and McIntosh's owners were likely looking for an exit.  3. Bose tech enables McIntosh to get into mobile / personal products. I would expect to see a McIntosh headphones announcement, or possibly …

LG MyView Smart Monitor: A 4K TV for Those Who Also Need a Premium PC Monitor

LG’s MyView Smart Monitor combines a 32″ 4KTV, a 32″ PC monitor, and an OS that theoretically allows you to do light computing. This is not a random combination, or simply about space saving, it reflects the reality that work, personal computing, and entertainment share key technical similarities and are often done in a shared space. I spent a few months with the 32” MyView Smart Monitor (32SR85U) to see how well LG has addressed each use case individually, whether a converged product makes sense, and, if so, whether LG’s approach is the right one. This review will focus on …
